Leandro Trossard replaced him for the 1-0 win over Ipswich on December 27, with captain Martin Odegaard assuming Saka’s role on the right of attack.
Whether Mikel Arteta sticks with that setup or signs a replacement for Saka that will eventually cause competition between the two players remains to be seen.
One position that may be less likely to be targeted is midfield – but Gunners fans have got excited after spotting one of the club’s previous targets at the Emirates Stadium.
Feyenoord midfielder Quinten Timber – twin brother of Arsenal star Jurrien – posted a photo on Instagram showing himself at the Emirates Stadium for the 1-0 win over Ipswich.
He captioned the post: “Flight’s booked.”
The 23-year-old was linked with a move to the Gunners back in April but nothing materialised.

Reacting to the photo, one Arsenal fan wrote on Reddit: “You have no idea how much I want this guy to play for us some day just to have twins in the squad.”
A second wrote: “I would love him, but it would need to be something more serious than bench option for him to consider.”
A third simply stated: “I am begging.”
While a fourth joked: “If he can play LB Mikel will take him.”
And a fifth explained: “I don’t think you can come as a captain and star player from Feyenoord to be bench option. He can go anywhere in La Liga, EPL, Serie A to start… except for like one to three clubs in those leagues.”
