He was met with an enthusiastic reception from the Gunners supporters who arrived early, which elicited an emotional response from the former Arsenal player. The stadium was filled with the sound of his name as it reverberated throughout the final minutes of the match, and numerous spectators remained to give him a standing ovation following Arsenalโ€™s 3-1 winning score.

After being replaced by David Raya in Mikel Artetaโ€™s starting lineup, Ramsdale, who appeared in 89 matches for Arsenal, departed in pursuit of consistent first-team action. He articulated his preference for consistent playing time over benching, even if it necessitated joining a team that was engaged in competing in the league.

โ€œI would not have been as emotionally invested in the achievement if I had been on the bench,โ€ Ramsdale disclosed to Football Focus prior to the match. โ€œMy sole objective was to engage in playing football.โ€ When I was a child, I desired to play football for the sake of playing, rather than merely sitting on a bench. โ€œI was fortunate to be able to play and get out, so I am grateful to have joined Southampton.โ€

The Saintsโ€™ goalkeeper had a strong first half against his former team, effectively blocking a low shot from Thomas Partey at the edge of the box and returning to his feet to prevent the rebound from entering the net. Arsenal struggled to break the deadlock in the first half, despite their possession dominance and numerous menacing set pieces, resulting in a score of 0-0 at halftime, according to the Mirror.
