Real Madrid is reportedly considering a swap deal with Arsenal, proposing to send Rodrygo in exchange for defender William Saliba. According to a report from Football Transfers, shared by TBR Football, the Spanish club is eager to acquire Saliba, even if it means letting go of the Brazilian forward.
Saliba is viewed as one of the premier defenders in the world and is a key component of Arsenal’s lineup. The 23-year-old has established a strong partnership with Gabriel Magalhães, which is widely recognized as one of the best defensive pairings in the Premier League. Arsenal signed Saliba from Saint-Étienne in 2019, but he had to wait until 2022 to make his first appearance for the club. Since then, he has become vital to Arsenal’s defense and played a significant role in their recent title pursuits.
The French international has earned 23 caps for his national team and has made 89 appearances for Arsenal. He is under contract until 2027, but Arsenal is reportedly keen to negotiate a new long-term agreement. Real Madrid, aiming to enhance their defense for the future, is willing to include Rodrygo in the deal to secure Saliba.
Rodrygo has been a key player for Real Madrid since joining from Santos in 2019 for €45 million. The versatile forward has recorded 56 goals and 43 assists in 224 matches for the club, contributing to their 12 trophy wins. Despite his importance to the team, Madrid seems prepared to let him go to strengthen their defense with Saliba.
In other transfer news, Arsenal is also reportedly in competition with Real Madrid to sign Argentine talent Franco Mastantuono. TBR Football indicates that the Gunners are intent on outmaneuvering Real Madrid to secure the River Plate youngster.
Mastantuono, a versatile attacking midfielder, has already made an impact at just 17 years old, with 29 senior appearances for River Plate. His contract includes a €45 million release clause. Real Madrid has been interested in Mastantuono for some time, having a track record of acquiring young South American talent. However, Arsenal is reportedly ready to activate his release clause and make significant efforts to bring the highly-rated player to North London.
