Arsenal are reportedly targeting one of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ key players ahead of the winter transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.
The Gunners have faced challenges in living up to expectations this season, currently trailing Premier League leaders Liverpool by nine points. Injuries have played a major role in their inconsistent performances, with Bukayo Saka now out for more than two months after undergoing hamstring surgery. The injury occurred during Arsenal’s 5-1 win over Crystal Palace.
This issue could prompt Arsenal to seek reinforcements during the January transfer window. The Daily Mail reports that Wolves’ forward Matheus Cunha has become a primary target. The Brazilian international has apparently been on Arsenal’s radar for several months, while Wolves have yet to finalize a new contract with him.
Cunha could be a valuable addition for Arsenal in the middle of the season. The 25-year-old has had a strong campaign, registering 10 goals and four assists in 19 league appearances. In addition to his goal-scoring ability, Cunha stands out for his pressing, ball recoveries, and success in both ground and aerial duels, averaging 5.7 per game.
Though he primarily plays as a center-forward, Cunha has displayed versatility, excelling in an attacking midfield role and adapting well on either wing. This flexibility could make him an ideal match for Mikel Arteta’s tactical setup.
However, Wolves might be hesitant to let Cunha go in January. After signing him permanently for £44 million, it may take an offer of around £60 million to convince them to sell. Arsenal would need to show serious intent with a substantial bid.
Wolves manager Vitor Pereira has described Cunha as a “special player,” and the opportunity to compete for silverware might encourage the Brazilian to consider a mid-season move to the Emirates.
