Chelsea can repeat Liverpool transfer trick and hijack £50m Man City deal for ‘priority’ signing.
Chelsea have signed seven players during the summer transfer window, but their business may not yet be complete. Mauricio Pochettino has seen a massive overhaul in terms of the playing staff at Stamford Bridge, with no less than 18 players exiting either permanently or on loan.
Having splashed out more than £300million on new signings, you could be forgiven for thinking the business could be over. But that may not be the case.
Mauricio Pochettino offered an update on the club’s transfer plans in the final two weeks of the window ahead of the game with West Ham United on Sunday.
He said: “We are working of course. Seeing all of the options we can manage on the market. The club is assessing all the options. At the moment, we are exploring all of the options that are on the market and there is still no decision.”
One player who has just recently been linked with a move to the Bridge is winger Jeremy Doku. Doku is attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs, with the likes of West Ham and Manchester City keeping tabs on the Rennes youngster.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano describes Doku as a “priority” for Pep Guardiola’s side.
He said: “Jeremy Doku remains another target for Manchester City. Doku remains a priority target for City but they don’t want to enter into any bidding war.”
Chelsea can secure a deal for Doku if they flex their spending muscle. they have already shown they can beat Liverpool to signings with Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo both opting to sign for the Blues, rather than the Reds.
And now they could do the same to City. Romano added: “They had discussions with Rennes and positive discussions on the player side, but before agreeing anything, they want to make sure that the situation is not going to be a big fight on the player side.”
