Erik ten Hag publicly expresses his thoughts on Harry Maguire remaining with Manchester United.
Erik ten Hag has openly discussed his thoughts on Harry Maguire’s decision to continue staying at Manchester United for the current season.
Despite Maguire’s limited playing time and his previous bench role, the English center-back has chosen to remain with the team. This move comes after West Ham’s unsuccessful attempt to sign him during the summer transfer window due to challenges in agreeing on personal terms and contract terms with United.
Maguire will now have to vie for a place in the squad alongside fellow defenders such as Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, and Victor Lindelof. Ten Hag addressed Maguire’s situation during his press conference on Friday.
During his Friday press conference, Erik ten Hag expressed contentment with Harry Maguire’s decision to remain at Manchester United and issued a challenge to the English player to demonstrate his worth for a spot in the first team.
Ten Hag’s statement, as reported by the Daily Mail, reads: “I’m pleased that Harry is part of our team. We require a strong squad, and with four capable center-backs, including Luke Shaw, we have a total of five. Given the anticipated load of 50 to 60 matches this season, having this depth is crucial. All our players are internationals, which adds to the workload, and having Harry Maguire in the team is a positive aspect. He, like every other member of the squad, must compete for their position, as our squad is constructed with two players for each role, which is vital.”
