According to Turkish outlet Fanatik (via Sport Witness), Galatasaray executive Erden Timur has already held talks with Thiago Alcantara about a possible move to Istanbul, and has made a’very good offer’ that the midfielder is said to have accepted.
The Super Lig club’s representative is said to have made several trips to the UK in connection with potential transfer business and has spoken with Merseyside chiefs about the terms of signing the Spain international. The reaction of Liverpool to these discussions is unknown.
It’s unclear whether Thiago will leave Anfield this summer, with conflicting reports coming from various sources.
According to The Telegraph’s Chris Bascombe, the Reds are willing to offload the 32-year-old, while The Athletic’s James Pearce and Raphael Honigstein claim that the player intends to stay at Liverpool for the final year of his contract after rejecting a ‘lucrative’ offer from Saudi Arabia.
It’s not out of the question that LFC could cash in on the midfielder while they still have a chance to profit from his departure, and selling him would also free up a non-homegrown berth in the Premier League squad, which currently has only one such vacancy.
However, Jurgen Klopp may be hesitant to lose a player whose technical abilities are nearly unrivalled at Anfield, and his departure would be the summer’s second highly experienced midfield exit after James Milner left for Brighton.
Thiago’s future may be determined by whether another player in his position is recruited to replace Alexis MacAllister and Dominik Szoboszlai, as well as whether the 32-year-old himself prefers to stay with the Reds or seek new opportunities elsewhere.
