Sky Sport reported that Pirlo has agreed a two-year contract at the club, with the option for a third year.

Andrea Pirlo will become Sampdoria manager on a two-year deal… with owner Andrea Radrizzani trusting the former Juventus coach to secure an immediate return to Serie A

Radrizzani chose the former Juventus coach after being impressed with the experience he had gained working in Turkey, despite a mixed spell at Fatih Karagumruk.

Pirlo was sacked last month after less than one season in charge, with the team lying ninth in the table.

Karagumruk had finished eighth the previous season.

Pirlo’s first employment in Italy since leaving Juventus in 2021 will be with Sampdoria.

During his lone season as manager, Pirlo had guided Juventus to the Italian Cup and Italian Super Cup.

Pirlo is claimed to have met the Italian investor three times who recently purchased Samp, saving the team from bankruptcy. Di Marzio believes that Radrizzani was ultimately persuaded by Pirlo’s enthusiasm and knowledge.

The former Juventus and Milan player spent the previous season in Turkey as Karagümrük’s manager. After spending one year at Juventus in 2020–21, when he won a Supercoppa and a Coppa Italia, Pirlo returns to Italy.
