Premier League giants confirm they have SACKED their manager with just 1 game to go

Ruben Selles will step down as head coach of Southampton when his contract ends at the end of the current campaign, the club has confirmed.

Southampton was demoted to the Championship, ending its 10-year stint in the top division, despite playing well against some of the Premier League’s hardest opponents, notably a 3-3 draw against then-table-toppers Arsenal.

Before leaving, Selles will take command of Southampton’s final regular-season game against Liverpool at home.

Southampton Football Club released the following statement: “Southampton Football Club can confirm that it has spoken with Men’s First Team Manager, Ruben Selles, and decided not to renew his contract when it expires at the end of the season.

“The club would like to officially express its gratitude to Ruben for assuming the management role during a trying period for the organization and for giving it his all as we tried to stay in the Premier League.

“Ruben will lead the team in Sunday’s championship game at St. Mary’s versus Liverpool. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.

Russell Martin of Swansea City is the front-runner to take the Southampton position, according to a recent 90min article. Sources have indicated he would likely transfer to St Mary’s before the 2023–24 season.
