Dwayne Johnson is set to shock everyone by buying this English club

If a Hollywood A-lister backs the offer for the Shrimpers, Southend’s ‘Rock’ will take on a whole new meaning.

Are football teams the new toy for Hollywood’s A-listers? That appears to be the case, with Southend potentially susceptible to a consortium proposal that could feature a very famous figure.

The Shrimpers are now in English football’s fifth division, the National League, and could face a takeover bid, according to the Southend Echo.

According to the source, a group is now in talks with current owner Ron Martin and, if successful, has already approached Dwayne Johnson’s production business about filming a documentary.

It appears to be in the same style as the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ series made by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney following their successful takeover of the Welsh club.

Ray Winstone, a West Ham fan, is also mentioned as someone who could be involved if the group is successful in convincing Martin to let the club go.

If not, he risks putting Southend out of business, as the club has just until July 12 to fulfill any overdue tax obligations as well as pay personnel.

Martin, if he truly cares about the club, will not dig his heels in and should approach negotiations with an open mind.

As long as those interested can also demonstrate that they have the club’s best interests at heart and that this announcement isn’t just a gimmick, the bid might be the catalyst for the club’s return to the football league.
